Help, answers and how to reach a human

We reply within five business days. Writing from the device that has the problem, and including your iOS version, iPhone model and the app version shown at the bottom of Settings, gets you a useful answer much faster.

Purchases

I bought a deck but it is still locked

Open Settings ▸ Restore Purchases. This asks Apple which unlocks belong to your Apple ID and re-applies them. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase, and that you have a working internet connection.

I changed to a new iPhone

Install the App, then tap Settings ▸ Restore Purchases. Purchases are permanent and tied to your Apple ID, so there is nothing to buy again. Note that your learning progress is a separate matter — see below.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase. If something in the App is broken, please also tell us so we can fix it.

Are these subscriptions?

No. Every purchase is a one-time unlock. Nothing renews and nothing expires.

Progress and data

Where is my progress stored?

Only on your device. We have no servers holding your study history, which is why we cannot restore it for you if it is lost. It is included in an iCloud or computer backup of your phone.

How do I move my progress to another device?

Use the export option in Settings to create a backup file, send it to yourself, then import it on the new device. Restoring a full iPhone backup to the new device also carries it across.

How do I start over?

Settings has a reset option. This clears study history and progress on the device. It does not remove purchases — those stay on your Apple ID and can be restored at any time.

Audio

Audio does not play

Can I use the App offline?

Yes — everything already on your device works with no connection at all, and it stays there. Two things need the internet the first time, and only the first time:

If you are about to travel, open the App on wi-fi first and study a few cards; that gives it the chance to pull the next batch ahead of time.

It says a card pack could not be downloaded

Check your connection and reopen the App — it retries on its own. Cards you already have are unaffected, so you can keep studying meanwhile. If it keeps failing on wi-fi, tell us your country and roughly when it happened, so we can check whether our content host is reachable from your network.

Learning content

I think a translation or explanation is wrong

Please tell us — this is the single most useful message we get. Include the Japanese, what the App says, and what you believe it should say. Every report is checked against our sources and corrections ship in the next content update.

Do I need to know hiragana first?

No. Readings are shown alongside the Japanese and every card can be heard aloud, so you can start from zero and pick up kana as you go.

The weather feature

If you type a city in Settings, the companion character can mention today's weather. It is off until you do that. Clearing the city field switches it off again completely; the App never asks for location permission. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com.
